What a conveyor does
A conveyor provides a controlled path for moving products or components between process steps. The useful starting point is not the conveyor type but the product, route, rate and hand-off required by the process.

Define the application first
Record product size and weight, orientation, speed, accumulation needs, transfer points, elevation changes, environmental conditions and cleaning requirements before comparing conveyor platforms.
- Describe the product and its stable conveying surface
- Map every infeed, discharge and transfer
- State the required throughput and operating pattern
- Allow access for cleaning, adjustment and maintenance
